Earth Day 2023: Invest in Our Planet, Invest in Our Youth

In celebration of the Earth Day 2023, SM CARES together with the Department of Environment and Resources (DENR), and Sacred Heart College held an earth day event with the theme, Invest in Our Planet, Invest in Our Youth, at SM City Lucena Event Center last 22 April 2023.

Maricel Alquiros, SM City Lucena Mall Manager, said that the activity aimed to encourage everyone in the family, particularly the young ones to protect and respect Mother Earth. Miss Universe Philippines-Lucena 2022 and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Quezon 2022 candidate, Anjeanette C. Japor graced the event as a guest storyteller that shared the story of the young boy- Manolo, the Environmental Warrior.

Mr. Jay S. Lim of Tanggol Kalikasan, was also invited to the event and discussed environmental issues and necessary steps to help protect and save mother earth. “The greatest threat to our planet is the human race and the belief that a hero or someone like Superman will save it. No one, but us will save our future and the planet earth” – Lim said. He also reiterated that a simple act of planting trees and proper disposal and segregation of wastes at home will help if we do it hand and hand now.

During the interview for Kasama ng Kalikasan (KNK), Ma Janet Geneblaz, SM City Lucena PR Manager, stated that “At SM, every day is Earth Day. However, today we are reminded of our responsibility to protect the planet we live in. We believe that we must all come together and take action against the climate crisis and accelerate a much greener and more equitable future for everyone.”
