Catanauan, Quezon – Youth Environmental Summit (YES) 2024 with theme, “Kabataan para sa Kalikasan” gathered 94 participants from the Sangguniang Kabataan, youth organizations, offspring of fishermen, and young learners from coastal communities around Tayabas Bay and Ragay Gulf last April 18-19 2024 at Casa Joros Beach and Resort, Catanauan Quezon.
YES increased the awareness of the youth about the importance of Tayabas Bay, the role of the youth in protecting and conserving the environment, as well as their rights in nation-building toward achieving environmental sustainability.
The event highlighted the participants’ conventional view on the Tayabas Bay and Ragay Gulf’s local environment situation through workshop and creative outputs, and brainstorming some proposed activities in their areas. The summit culminated in a powerful ceremony where participants will sign a covenant to signify their unwavering commitment to:
- Protecting and preserving the involved bodies of water
- Promoting the responsible use of social media to combat fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.
- Upholding the right to information for a more informed and empowered citizenry.
This event was organized by Tanggol Kalikasan Inc., funded by the European Union via GoJust (Governance in Justice) and in partnership with the House of Representatives. Various participants from 2nd and 3rd district represent their barangays across the tapestry of the Province of Quezon such as Sariaya, Lucena, Padre Burgos, Agdangan, Unisan, General Luna, Catanauan, San Francisco, Mulanay, and Pitogo.
